Good to know
Does the number go to a server?
No. The check happens in your browser. Zegel doesn’t send the number anywhere, doesn’t store it and doesn’t put it in the page address either.
Does valid mean the number exists?
No. Valid means the number is well formed and passes the eleven test. Only the Basisregistratie Personen (BRP) in the Netherlands knows whether it has been issued, and to whom.
Where do I find a BSN?
On a Dutch passport, identity card or driving licence, and on letters from the Belastingdienst. People who live in Belgium and work in the Netherlands get one too.
